"I voted in favour of this report, which advocates the banning of cloned animals and their descendants from sale for consumption in our single market for the next 5 years, as well as completely suspending the use of cloning on farm animals within the EU. This is important, not only to protect consumer standards within the EU but also to offer an incentive to our trading partners to move away from this intensification of the farming process. With the scientific consensus suggesting high health risks for the animals involved, it is crucial that we move to protect animal welfare and preserve the standards of our Union. Cloning was an awe-inspiring scientific advance, but we must be cautious about its effect on our farming techniques and our health."@en1
