"A provisional ban on cloning animals and placing food from cloned animals on the market is an appropriate step and one that I can support.
However, I consider calls to make this ban permanent and widen its scope to cover all species kept and reproduced for farming purposes to be disproportionate. Furthermore, I have concerns about the implications of extending the ban to include imports of food produced from the descendants of cloned animals and calls to establish a traceability system at European Union level.
In my opinion, the report adopted by the Committees strays too far from the principle of scientific evidence-based policy-making. I believe any moves to introduce a permanent ban should be based on a full impact assessment of scientific evidence."@en1
