"This report related to the waiver of parliamentary immunity of a Member of the European Parliament. In waiving an immunity defence, Parliament does not formulate any opinion on the probability of guilt or not of the MEP in question. It only looks at applying the Immunity Rules of Procedures (so-called Protocol No 7) to these cases, and when it finds the alleged actions have no direct and obvious connection to the performance of their duties as an MEP, then it decides to waive the immunity, so that court proceedings in the national Member State can continue. If there is suspected political interference or otherwise, then a negative vote may be tabled. However, as there was no such suspicion, I voted in favour of this report."@en1
