"UKIP opposes the EU taking any action on the international stage as it should be elected and accountable national governments that take these decisions. We also agree with a House of Commons note which objects to the EU having sole competence in this area of social policy. However, we do not want to oppose a measure authorising Member States to sign up to the ILO Protocol. We also note that either way the UK will sign up in its own right. For these reasons I abstained. The issue itself is very important and we agree that stronger measures must be taken to combat forced labour, the best of which would be to leave the EU as freedom of movement laws make it easier for criminal gangs to traffic people across Europe."@en1
