"Madam President, there is deep unease amongst the British public at the idea of cloned animals and this unease is shared by the wider European public. We have seen that reflected in the Chamber today in the comments made by colleagues from across the European Union. It is not only a concern about the food that we eat, it is also a concern about the potential wider impact on nature of cloned animals and their offspring – and we have heard from colleagues this morning how cloned animals do indeed suffer.
A growing world population does indeed present challenges for food supply, but cloning animals is not the answer. Rather, a move to a more sustainable approach to the entire food chain would benefit the customer, the farmer and the environment – a sustainable future, yes; a cloned future, no."@en1
