"Today marks an important step in the move towards the circular economy. This is an innovative and progressive move away from the current linear economy and will incorporate resource efficiency, recovery, reuse and recycling of materials into the production process. The EU currently imports half of the resources it consumes and throws away around 600 million tonnes of waste that could be reused. This is unsustainable. The circular economy also presents a real opportunity for Europe to compete globally in the context of ever decreasing resources."@en1
