"This was not a vote on TTIP itself but on Parliament’s opinion. MEPs cannot start or stop trade negotiations; we can only approve or reject TTIP once negotiations are concluded. This resolution is our best tool to influence the negotiations. Today we have sent a clear warning: we can only accept TTIP if certain conditions are met. Labour MEPs voted to reject the inclusion of any public service in TTIP, regardless of how they are funded or organised, and to protect workers’ rights, environmental standards and food safety. We also voted to rule out ISDS (Investor-State Dispute Settlement), which enables companies to sue governments, from TTIP, though this did not get the support of a majority of MEPs."@en1
