"If we want Europe to remain at the forefront of global trade for the next decades, deals such as TTIP are essential. The reduction of trade barriers will benefit all parts of the supply chain as well as consumers. Across Europe citizens will see a reduction in costs as well as a simultaneous boost to the economy. SMEs, which are crucial to our economic recovery, will particularly benefit from the removal of red tape. Despite the political manoeuvrings of the Left it was a triumph for democracy that this vote occurred in an appropriate timeframe and without further delays. For such a landmark deal, reform of the investor protection mechanism was the most appropriate course of action as it is still affording European businesses protection from discrimination as well as allowing governments to regulate as they deem suitable and in the interest of their citizens. For these reasons I voted in favour of the resolution and hope that such a decisive result in the European Parliament gives the TTIP negotiations fresh impetus. It is worrying to see that UKIP has now joined the French National Front, the Communists and Greens in their instinctive anti-Americanism and antipathy to so-called ‘big business’."@en1
