"There has been much scare-mongering by those on the extremes of either side of this House to the discredit of a deal that would be hugely beneficial to the UK and to Europe.
Trade between the US and EU Member States is substantial and the economic benefits of a free trade agreement would be a further boost, creating the largest free trade area in the world. Many of the aspects of the agreement that have been attacked, ISDS being a prime example, are common features of most trade agreements and there to protect investors. They are not there to allow investors to privatise the NHS by stealth as has been disingenuously claimed by critics.
The immediate economic benefit to the UK of the agreement is estimated to be anywhere in the region of UKP 4-10 billion. I am pleased to have voted in favour of today’s report and would encourage my constituents with concerns to look at the details of this agreement and not be misled by the myths being peddled by the likes of UKIP who, as a supposedly free-market, Atlanticist party, are opposing this deal for cynical political gain."@en1
