"The Lange Report on TTIP is an own-initiative report that has no legislative power whatsoever. It is merely a wish list of how the Committee on International Trade would like to amend TTIP. I promised my constituents that I would vote against TTIP on the basis that trade policy should be decided by our own democratic government and not the European Union. I also promised to vote to exclude the ISDS mechanism from TTIP.
The voting list on the report contained about 126 separate votes. I did not vote on these amendments because I do not wish to be party to an alternative version of TTIP suggested by Parliament when I do not accept the EU’s democratic legitimacy to legislate on this or any other matter in the first place. I would have voted on Amendments 40 and 27 to exclude ISDS but Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, allowed an amendment to be voted on first that deleted these amendments from the voting list – despite protests from Members present.
Therefore no MEPs were able to vote to exclude ISDS, but I did vote against the report as a whole in the final vote."@en1
