"I voted in favour of this report, which aimed to bring the regulation of copyright up to date with technological advances in the digital age.
This report aims to not only defend the rights of artists to be fairly remunerated for their intellectual property in the digital age, but also extends rights to the public and consumers.
I am in favour of rights for consumers to access content without undue restrictions such as geo-blocking, provided that intellectual property creators are remunerated fairly.
I voted against amendment 46, the so-called panorama amendment, which aimed to restrict the free use of images and photographs of public buildings.
I also voted no to Amendment 1, ‘After § 57’. While this amendment was couched in the language of protecting quality journalism, it is better known as the ‘snippet tax’, or ‘Google tax’ and it was aimed at restricting the rights of internet users to hyperlink to other websites without paying a fee.
If either of these two amendments had passed, I would not have been able to support the report. However, both fell, so I voted in favour of the report."@en1
