"This is a comprehensive report which identifies many of the problems that are of strategic interest to the EU and its Member States. The destabilisation of the entire region poses grave threats to EU Member States and it is vital that governments work together to pursue policies that take account of our mutual interests in the region. As thousands of EU citizens travel to Iraq and Syria to fight with ISIS it is more important than ever to find joint solutions to the threat of terrorism that they pose back home, sharing intelligence and information. I am particularly pleased that the report refers to the introduction of a European Passenger Name Record, which would make it easier to track the movements of foreign fighters.
I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome the references to the refugee and IDP crisis facing the Middle East, particularly the burden being placed upon Jordan, Lebanon and the Kurdistan Regional Government. More needs to be done to help them cope with the huge strain that is being placed on their infrastructure and resources – failure to do so risks weakening those entities and putting further migratory pressures on Europe."@en1
