"President, I supported the Herranz - Garcia report given strong measures are needed to ensure swift action to protect public health from contaminated food and feed in the event of a nuclear accident. The EU needs up-to-date legal instruments that include flexible, incident-specific decision-making procedures to address situations like those that occurred in the wake of the accidents at Chernobyl and Fukushima.
I do, however, believe MEPs should be given a stronger role in setting maximum limits on radioactive contamination of food and feed, and that the public has a right to be fully informed when measures are taken in reaction to a nuclear accident."@en1
