"Madam President, on the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre, it is important that this genocidal attempt against 8 000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys is remembered as the worst atrocity of its type since World War II. It must never happen again. A thousand boys and men are still missing, presumed dead and buried in unmarked graves, after summary executions in cold blood by Bosnian Serb forces and irregular militias. The UN was sadly negligent in its function to protect civilians in its designated territory.
I also wish, along with other colleagues, to express my absolute shock at the Russian veto of the British Government’s attempt to get a Srebrenica resolution through the UN Security Council. Tragedies of this type should never be a political football. Has Russia not learned its lessons from the Katyń massacres during World War II, when Stalin lied and blamed this on the Germans? Surely this should not happen again either."@en1
