"I was pleased to support this report on responding to migratory pressures, which aims to bolster EU resources to manage migration and refugee flows, particularly following the recent tragedies in the Mediterranean. Up to now the national budgets of our southern Member States have borne the brunt of responding to the migration crisis, so I am pleased to see an EU response. Increased migration will certainly continue to be a huge issue for Europe into the future, and if not managed properly now, we could see knock-on effects in other areas. Parliament previously called for increases in these budgetary areas in 2014, and although the institutions all agreed to this much-needed increase, it is regrettable that such proposed increases are small, given the scale of the task at hand. I would also encourage the Council to adopt a European approach to what is a European problem as soon as possible."@en1
