"Madam President, I am very happy to support the objective of providing a single ticketing service across Europe. We are aiming to simplify travel across Europe when we operate in a single market. Therefore passengers should be able to purchase and to plan EU-wide travel with digital ticketing in the future. One way is to advance one ticket or travel card for all modes of transport across the EU. Currently, when we think about it, passengers face a very complicated procedure, purchasing bus or train tickets. However, multimodal integrated ticketing could at least simplify the system and make ticketing much more efficient. It opens up the opportunity, of course, for a much more competitive transport system. A single user-friendly European travel card could be topped up via digital payments, for example, and used to plan a variety of journeys. It would create the opportunity for transport to offer better deals for consumers and tourists."@en1
