"I supported the proposal to mobilise the EU Solidarity Fund for applications concerning floods in Romania, Bulgaria and Italy for a total of EUR 66 505 850. This is an example of EU solidarity in action, and it is very positive to see such widespread support for this proposal in the European Parliament. However I would echo the resolution’s regret that there is a general tendency in Council not to honour its commitments to countries which have experienced major disasters and to fulfil the criteria of the EU Solidarity Fund by taking money away from other programmes rather than mobilising additional resources via special instruments. I am glad to see, however, that the Council did not follow this approach for this amending budget."@en1
