"Madam President, thank you very much for the opportunity to speak here. Several MEPs from the EPP speak about lies: Mr Pabriks spoke about lies, Mr Caspary spoke about half-truths and then we had a Spanish MEP, Mr González, talking about a million new jobs. Well, if we want to talk about the truth, let us tell the truth.
Our Minister with responsibility for this area, Richard Bruton, invited MEPs to a breakfast to discuss this issue. In the invitation he informed us that this agreement, if successful, would lead to an increase in growth of 0.5% GDP per year above what is now predicted. I asked him whether this was over one year – now remember we are talking about telling lies and telling the truth here – and he said yes. I asked him twice if it was over one year and he said yes. I asked him a third time and he said yes. That is a lie: the predicted growth is between now and 2027. It is not definite; it is the most ambitious scenario. Stick to the truth. Lies will not work here, Richard."@en1
