"Madam President, I am glad to welcome this European Fund for Strategic Investments that may help to kick start investment and, hopefully, produce growth within the EU over the coming years. The fund was launched last November and Parliament has played its role today in moving the process forward and in supporting the start-up of this fund. We have put in a number of positive changes, ensuring that more money goes to Horizon 2020 and the Connecting Europe Facility, or – in truth – taking less from these.
I am pleased to see that Ireland has already submitted a number of projects through the EU and European Investment Bank project pipeline. A project involving 14 primary care centres has already been submitted as one of the first projects with the potential to be supported by this fund. Some of these primary care centres are located in Kilcock in County Kildare, Tuam in Galway, Westport, Claremorris, Ballinrobe in County Mayo, Ballymote in Sligo and Boyle in County Roscommon. These will be very significant investments, not only in health infrastructure but also in people’s health."@en1
