"Madam President, I have seen a lot of things pass through this place that have shocked me and have reaffirmed my conviction that Britain would be better off out of here. I have to say that this report tops the lot.
I would like to draw attention in particular to the split vote on paragraph 16. I will once again make it clear that I am equally disgusted by Mr Putin’s actions, but this report is truly frightening. It calls for the strengthening of sanctions that are damaging businesses across the continent, and, worst of all, for the European Union to arm Ukraine.
The path to peace is not through tit-for-tat measures, and it is certainly not through the flooding of an already volatile situation – and a most fragile ceasefire – with more weapons. I have seen this situation develop, during my time in this Parliament, from a few protests in Kiev to the worst security crisis since the end of the Cold War. The European Union must stop its persistent warmongering; Russia must ensure that it abides by the Minsk peace agreement; and all sides need to get back around the negotiating table and work out a proper and lasting peace deal."@en1
