"I voted in favour of this report as I believe that the path to energy security lies in the transition to a clean green energy supply that favours non-nuclear renewables, such as tidal lagoons. However I voted against or abstained from individual amendments promoting or justifying nuclear energy, including those using ambiguous language or terminology. My view is based on issues of long-term cost both to people and planet and the fact that it is impossible for us to accurately estimate the cost of nuclear decommissioning, or storage of radioactive and other toxic waste. Transport of raw, processed and spent nuclear fuel is also a financial and environmental burden. Nuclear installations are major targets for terrorist attacks which necessitates further spending on high-level security. Money currently spent on imports would be better used on creating more jobs, infrastructure and research, to support a move away from old carbon-based energy supplies and controversial nuclear power generation."@en1
