"Mr President, this is what the citizens expect. The citizens of Europe expect us to hold this debate now. We have had over 2 million citizens petitioning us to deal with this Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership issue. We have had phone calls, we have had emails to every single one of us in this House. We have been deluged. People care about this issue.
What are we doing this morning exactly? This morning is scheduled for us to debate TTIP. It is on the agenda for today So what do we do? Do we go back to our offices? Or do we actually do what people expect us to do, and hold a debate? The choice here is a choice between democracy – listening to the people – or going back and doing things behind closed doors in the European Union way. We have to hold this debate today, because that is what is expected of us by the people of the United Kingdom, of Italy, of the whole of Europe."@en1
