"Madam President, despite the fact that there has been no evidence of global warming for the past 15 years, the EU is now ratifying a new agreement to approve yet more ambitious targets for the Union and its Member States, when burdensome EU regulations and utopian green goals are already ruining our industries and driving a large number of our companies abroad.
The rapporteur states that, in order to strengthen its role as a world leader, it is important that the EU supports ambitious targets to combat climate change. But few are now following the EU’s stance, as illustrated by Annex B to the Kyoto Protocol. Major polluting countries are abstaining when it comes to committing to the Doha Amendment. The EU is alone in saddling itself with stringent climate commitments, as other countries are not doing so. Major economies have abandoned this obsolete theory – to which some never subscribed – and giving priority to the prosperity of their countries and their people.
Let us be pragmatic. Let us start having a more realistic attitude towards this topic. We need to reinvigorate the declining EU economy with a new competitive approach."@en1
