"I believe it is absolutely imperative that we as legislators provide all possible support to new and existing businesses in order to protect intellectual property. This is particularly important for enterprises in the creative and cultural industries, which in many EU regions, including my own Northern Ireland, have witnessed a boom and experienced growth in recent years. In our region of the United Kingdom, specialist advisors from Invest Northern Ireland – through the Department of Enterprise – provide businesses with up-to-date help on patents, trademarks, designs and copyright. It is crucial that new enterprises and entrepreneurs have access to financial assistance to secure IPR and thus underwrite their innovative ideas and projects. However this report rightly stresses that raising awareness must not stop with businesses. Consumers too must be the subject of information campaigns to deter copyright infringements, counterfeiting and the sale of illicit products in the single market. Only when this holistic approach is taken can prospective entrepreneurs have the maximum confidence to enter the market and aid growth in national economies."@en1
