"I supported this report on the strategy for the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPR) in third countries. We must ensure a fair balance between rights-holders’ interests and end users interests. We also need the widest possible involvement of stakeholders so as to ensure a balanced outcome. The protection and enforcement of IPR are extremely important for the EU creative industries in particular. Furthermore, the strategy needs to be better adapted to the digital age, and we need to have strong collaboration between market surveillance authorities and customs authorities in order to ensure proper enforcement and policy coherence. This is not just about intellectual property rights but also about the problem of counterfeiting, which is no longer confined to luxury products but now includes goods such as medicines and foodstuffs."@en1
