"I along with my Labour Party colleagues voted in favour of this report on intellectual property rights (IPR) in third countries. The report strikes the right balance between consumer rights and strong rules on IPR protection, both of which are necessary if Europe’s creative and manufacturing sectors are to thrive.
I also support the approach taken by the rapporteur to the issue of access to medicines and a patient-focused approach to IPR in the medical sector. Generic medicines are crucial in ensuring affordable access to medication for many sections of society. It is important to ensure that they comply with international regulations and I am pleased that this report notes that there is nothing in IPR rules which would hamper the production of legitimate generic medicines."@en1
