"While I abstained in the final vote this report contained very many good points – such as the proposal to address the needs of women with disabilities in order to ensure their increased participation in the labour market, and the call to the Commission to propose a legal act to strengthen the approach by Member States on the prevention and suppression of all forms of gender violence, with a zero tolerance approach.
I fully support the call to designate 2016 as the European Year for combating violence against women and girls as well as the call on all on Member States to combat precarious work and the need to counter the feminisation of poverty driven by women employed in non-standard contracts such as involuntary part-time work, zero-hour contracts etc.
However I could not support Recital S which states that access to reproductive rights should never be restricted. Virtually all Member States have some restrictions and anyway it’s a matter for Member States to decide, not the EU. Recital U demonstrates an uninformed and narrow-minded perspective on single-sex schools and couldn’t be supported and the calls for gender data on everything from climate change to energy have no proven added value."@en1
