"The British Conservative delegation is pleased to support an alternative resolution to the Noichl report. The alternative resolution focused on a number of concerns that prohibit women from full equality: equal pay, discrimination in the workplace, violence against women and media portrayal of girls and women.
We are deeply concerned about the direction and content of the Noichl report and are unable to support many aspects including: a call for the Commission to create an EU model of sex education, claims that women have careers without ʽsignificant progressionʼ, demands on Member States to collect and analyse gender-related data when the EU has a dedicated Gender Agency.
Whilst some of our concerns are about content, others relate to more profound and ideological reasons based on what we think the EU should and should not be doing. The British Conservative delegation is opposed to more EU legislation in the area of social policy. We do not believe that the EU as an institution should accede to international conventions – this is for national governments to do. We believe that matters concerning adoption, criteria for asylum and official information on identity documents are for national governments to legislate on, not the EU."@en1
