"I share my colleague’s opinion that no enough is being done to promote gender equality. Ms Noichl notes in her report that the introduction of compulsory quotas in institutions for women to be able to achieve top positions has proven to be effective is countries where it has been applied. Irrespective of the various differing opinions on the introduction of quotas in this House, we should all agree that the gender pay and pension gap for equal work remains unacceptably high. In order to increase employment rates for women, there needs to be a fair system of maternity and paternity leave. After all, why should a father not be entitled to the same amount of days off work as the mother? In Sweden, for example, where we consistently see gender equality policies bringing positive results, the government also encourages couples to take equal time off work. Education plays an important role in combating inequality, discrimination and stereotyping. Women’s role in society is evolving and government policies should reflect this, and certainly not lag behind society’s views on gender equality."@en1
