"Madam President, when Britain joined the European Union – or ‘Common Market’ as it was then known – we were told it was a trade agreement. The British people were misled, and thanks to UKIP forcing the establishment to hold a referendum we will soon be able to correct that error. The undemocratic European Union should not be taking decisions on abortion, whether you like it or not; on sex education in schools, whether you like it or not; on lesbian, gay and transgender roadmaps, whether you agree with them or not or even know what they are; or, indeed, on creating university chairs in gender studies and feminist research – which is a waste of money for people in my constituency who are going to food banks in this recession. I say this as a homosexual who fights for homosexual equality, and as a firm believer in ladies’ rights. But these matters must be decided in our ancient British House of Commons and our recently-reconvened ancient Scottish Parliament. That is why I voted against this ludicrous political-correctness-on-stilts: the EU strategy for women and men. This is the sort of nonsense that demonstrates how out of touch this Parliament is with the men and women ..."@en1
