"Mr President, we need to talk about Eritrea and we need to talk about all of those countries that face corruption and where people are imprisoned, as we have heard from our Swedish colleagues, but we cannot walk away from them. We are caught, if you like, between a rock and a hard place.
Ms Hautala had a proposal about how we might intervene in these cases without money being siphoned off in corrupt ways. This morning in this House, we heard from a church leader in Nigeria about how they are dealing with the impact of Boko Haram and how they need aid to help people who have no shelter, no food and no water.
Commissioner, you rightly said that we have to solve these problems, because if we do not we will continue to have migratory flows beyond our capacity to cope. It is in our interests that we tackle these problems on the ground. Even where our policies fail we have to keep trying, and improving the lives of those who are affected so badly. Good luck with the work."@en1
