"Mr President, obviously it is vitally important that young people eat fruit and vegetables and drink milk. It is good for their health. But the question has to be asked: how is this of the competence of the European Union? What next? I presume progress will mean that next you will decide what we eat for dinner, what time we go to bed, etc. The EU is ever so slightly inconsistent on this. Ireland has 130 000 children living in poverty. What the European Union is doing to Ireland is the equivalent of a burglar coming around to your house, stealing all your money, stealing all your food, stealing all your goods and then giving you a little bit back, bit by bit, to feed your children. Remember, while this school scheme is going on, last year Ireland was forced to borrow, in two tranches, half a billion euros and then destroy it. It would have fed an awful lot of children. This is complete and utter hypocrisy."@en1
