"Mr President, the rapporteur and the Commissioner are to be congratulated on ensuring that these schemes are amalgamated. President Juncker said one of his main priorities was to reduce the administrative burden and bureaucratic rules. Commissioner Hogan has been in the vanguard in bringing that about and is to be complimented. These schemes are very worthwhile because they tackle the twin scourges of poverty and obesity – often inter-linked – and certainly in my own country about 2 000 schools and 200 000 pupils benefit from it. And of course if they get into good eating habits when they are young, there is a greater chance they will continue this into the future, and so will their parents and friends. I would also ask, even though some people have said this is a great scheme for the European Union, how many pupils, how many parents, how many teachers actually know and say that this scheme is a European scheme and it is coming from the European Union? I think that is something we should be emphasising, particularly at a time of growing euroscepticism."@en1
