"As we reflect on further attempts to make defence powers a pawn in Europe’s integrationist agenda, I would like to draw attention to positive developments toward safeguarding communities in my constituency, Northern Ireland, from terrorist and criminal threats.
Despite prolonged and self-interested efforts by nationalists and republican politicians in Northern Ireland to block the full operation of the UK National Crime Agency, I am happy to report that it has now been rolled out fully in our Province. No longer will organised crime gangs be allowed off the hook.
These new powers will provide crucial support to tackle fuel laundering, illicit trade, trafficking, other forms of organised crime and terrorist activity in our region of the United Kingdom.
This is what national security should be about – local and national agencies with tailored skills and a unique insight working together to combat threats to national security."@en1
