"Mr President, I am very happy to support this motion today because it is important that the active inclusion of disabled people and their full participation in society be promoted, in line with the EU human rights approach to disability issues. It is an approach at the core of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the Commission’s disability strategy builds on that convention. We must prioritise areas such as accessibility, make services and facilities accessible to people with disabilities, and promote the marketing of assistive devices. That is where the digital strategy that has been promoted now will certainly be of enormous benefit to people who have disabilities. In the area of employment, we need to raise significantly the share of persons with disabilities working in the open labour market. We must also promote inclusive education and lifelong learning for individuals with disabilities. I note that the Commission has welcomed or launched several education initiatives particularly for disabled people, including the European Agency for Development in Special Needs Education, as well as a study of disability and lifelong training. We in this House must welcome all this and promote them and support them."@en1
