"I voted in favour of the final resolution and against the two separates (technical correction after clarification with the Commission).
Cadmium is a carcinogenic substance (the by-product of zinc and copper production) which, under the Restrictions of Hazardous Substances Directive has been banned in electronic products in the EU since June 2014, so there are no more products on the EU market which contain this substance. The Commission, in January this year, introduced a delegated act which would see cadmium quantum dots being allowed again in LCD TVs by allowing an exemption for its use.
There are already cadmium-free quantum dot TVs on the market and the claim from cadmium quantum dot lobbyists that there are not is untrue. It was for these reasons that I voted in favour."@en1
