There was no actual question there, but let me say this: it is absolutely clear that this recast proposal has eaten away at Member States’ sovereignty, has eaten away at subsidiarity, and has taken on itself to try to do far more than was, and is, currently sensible for legislation at European level. There is no question in my mind, or indeed in my Group’s mind, that maternity leave is extremely important. There is no question that the rights of women should be upheld. The question is whether this is the right place to do it, and whether this proposal, with its absolute demands and with no flexibility, is the right approach."@en1
