"Mr President, I have been in politics for quite a long time, and there are two things that I have always believed in – and still believe in – passionately. One is freedom of expression. The second is freedom for those people who live in countries like Hungary to be able to make their own decisions as to what government they wish to have to govern them. I have heard nothing this evening that has really changed that view.
I do not like the rhetoric that we have heard, particularly from the left-wing representatives. I would like to conclude my remarks by alluding to Mr Verhofstadt's remark just a moment ago. He says it is time to conclude the debate on Hungary. I have to say clearly to Mr Verhofstadt that we should never have started this debate in the first place."@en1
