"This report concerned requests for opinions which are made in connection with two initiative reports, which are currently being drafted:
the Bresso-Brok report on ‘improving the functioning of the European Union building on the potential of the Lisbon treaty’
the Verhofstadt report on ‘the possible evolutions and adjustments of the current institutional set up of the European Union’.
The intention behind these initiative reports is to commence a debate regarding the future of the EU and possible Treaty changes in this context. It must be noted that these are matters that will undoubtedly prove controversial for my party. However, the request for opinions from the two institutions is a fundamental part of any democracy and, moreover, if we are to have a debate about the future of the EU, then as many stakeholders as possible should be heard in the process. It was for these reasons that I voted in favour of this report."@en1
