"Mr President, the Digital Single Market only means something if people have access to the internet, and there are two very distinct examples of people’s experiences in my constituency. A six-year EU-funded project is just coming to an end in Cornwall. This has meant that the county has had an incredible experience wth the roll-out of superfast broadband. For example, 40% of fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) connections in the UK are in this single county; 2 000 jobs have been created or safeguarded; 83% of SMEs say time and money has been saved as a consequence; and 58% of SMEs say they are growing as a result of this project. In the neighbouring county, they have had a very different experience as a consequence of not having that combined funding that Cornwall has received. Please look at these experiences and the difference effective EU funding can make for consumers, businesses and schools across the EU."@en1
