"I fully support this motion for a resolution. Whilst newly elected president General Muhammadu Buhari is to be congratulated, along with all others who have successfully gained office in peaceful, democratic elections, the recent violence in Nigeria must be strongly condemned. The extreme violence perpetrated by Islamist jihadi extremist group Boko Haram that has resulted in thousands of deaths and destruction of properties since the turn of the year represents a great humanitarian atrocity which the EU must take a firm stance against. I give full support to the Nigerian authorities in committing all resources to ending the violence of Boko Haram, and in ensuring the release of the 287 missing Chibok school girls and other kidnapped persons. Such efforts will help to restore stability in Nigeria and its surrounding regions."@en1
