I welcome and, obviously, voted in favour of these resolutions and actually I am very pleased to have voted with my Group on all votes today – particularly on this one. It does highlight two very important, almost contradictory elements in relation to food.
Firstly, malnutrition and people dying of poverty around the world; and then, on the other hand, the growth in obesity from people often not taking enough exercise and eating too much food. So putting an emphasis on this, particularly proper agricultural practices, and on the target of trying to eliminate poverty is something we should certainly propose and support; and I think we all do.
Therefore, I think there is an opportunity for us to identify where we can be effective and tackle the two problems on either end of the spectrum: obesity and malnutrition."@en1
