"I support this resolution in its condemnation of the recent surge in violence and persecution of Christians in Africa and the Middle East, which has seen many people abducted and terrorised, forced to flee their homes, and lose their lives in a brutal and horrifying manner. As enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, all people have the right to freedom of religion and belief and to live in their traditional homelands in conditions of dignify, equality and safety, rights which have been significantly violated by the perpetrators of these acts of violence. I find the recent attack by Al-Shabaab on university students in Kenya particularly abhorrent, in its intention to undermine education and exploit religious difference the country, in order to deprive it of future economic and cultural growth, shake its stability and threaten the dignity of all its citizens. I have therefore voted in favour of this resolution."@en1
