Two years after 1 129 workers lost their lives in the Rana Plaza building collapse, as well as numerous other deaths in the region from factory fires and collapses, we mark the anniversary in order to show respect for the victims. I welcome the continued monitoring of the situation. It is of vital importance that the conditions of the Sustainability Compact continue to be implemented in order to improve the working conditions for the four million workers in 4 000 textile factories in Bangladesh, particularly in areas such as occupational safety and respect of labour rights. We acknowledge the efforts already made by the Government of Bangladesh and the further improvements that must be undertaken."@en1
