"I voted against the proposal for a European Public Prosecutor’s Office. The fight against fraud concerning EU funding is one that I think most of us will support, particularly in the context of ongoing cuts to public spending and the importance to citizens of EU funding. However, there remains the question over whether the establishment of a European Public Prosecutor’s Office is consistent with the principle of subsidiarity, as is evident in the number of EU Member States that support the yellow card procedure in regard to this. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office would create an overarching EU criminal body. This could create a two-tier system, where European Union law might prioritise criminal cases concerning EU interests to the detriment of domestic cases."@en1
