"Labour MEPs voted in favour of the report on Monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide emissions from maritime transport. At EU level, the international maritime sector today accounts for around 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions and these are expected to increase significantly in the future. An EU-wide system for the MRV of greenhouse gas emissions from shipping is necessary in order to improve the information about ship efficiency and emissions from the sector, and encourage reducing emissions and fuel consumption."@en1
