The S&D Group believes that discarded plastic bags cause serious damage to the environment and harm biodiversity as marine litter. The problem can be easily and efficiently addressed as already proved in some Member States. Putting a charge on the use of plastic bags is a quick and sustainable way of reducing the problem."@en1
