"Mr President, praise for cooperation is often heard in this Chamber and even more so in committee, but the extent to which this was achieved over the Committee on Culture’s work on the Bologna Process was of a different, if you will excuse the pun, degree. Much of the credit for that goes to the rapporteur and the ECR will support this report in plenary. The report is not so consensual as to simply reel out platitudes. It is not just ʽmotherhood and apple pieʼ, to use the American expression, but it is of some real value.
However there are storm clouds, in the shape of the possible admission of Belarus into the Bologna Process, as is currently under discussion. There are already countries in the process whose political systems give less than full-throated support to the democratic freedoms and plurality needed for an effective university sector, and the admission of Belarus would give even more cause for concern over the confidence we want to have in the process."@en1
