"President, I supported the resolution adopted on the occasion of International Roma Day because I find it deeply disturbing that, 70 years after they suffered unspeakable atrocities under the Holocaust, the Roma people are still suffering from human rights violations as well as social and economic exclusion. Extreme right and nationalistic parties are rearing their heads in the EU, and it is a disgrace that politicians from a right-wing UK party have made suggestions to the effect that contact with members from the local Roma Slovak community is detrimental to the wellbeing of other British citizens. It is a dangerous path to tread. It means we have not learned the lessons from the Holocaust and are excluding the youngest and fastest-growing demographic group of our population from our common agenda for developing a prosperous and secure Europe."@en1
