"I voted in favour of the joint motion for resolution on the centenary of the Armenian Genocide. The killing of approximately one-and-a-half million people from the Armenian community one hundred years ago, in what was then the Ottoman Empire, was a genocide. Indeed an increasing number of Member States and national parliaments recognise the Armenian Genocide. Dealing with the past and truth recovery are vital to any meaningful reconciliation process, a fact we in Sinn Féin are keenly aware of given our own post-conflict situation in Ireland. The joint motion for a resolution expresses recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the context of on-going and further reconciliation between Armenia and Turkey. This is to be welcomed."@en1
